Signs of the Last Days?!

Keith Nix Ministries

What’s up with all of the ends of the world predictions from Christians? The latest in a long list of such predictions pointed to September 23, 2017, as the end of the world as we know it.  The so-called “Revelation 12” sign in the heavens was to signal the rapture of the church and drastic changes in the earth. It seems the man who is making the latest prediction, David Meade, is now pointing to October 15th as the day.

A quick google search will reveal that such predictions are not a recent development among believers. As early as the year 500, three theologians were predicting that was the year the world would end. One based his teaching on the dimensions of Noah’s ark. But of course, they were wrong. Even the Pope got involved in the prediction that the Lord would return in the year 1000. When He didn’t come in 1000, a few Bible scholars said it would be 1033, a thousand years after the crucifixion instead of His birth. Again, they were wrong!

The list is quite long but a jump to the 19th century reveals that Jesus was predicted to return on October 22, 1844, then in 1874, then in 1891. Predictions kept coming. Then in the 20th century, Edgar C. Whisenant a NASA scientist and Bible teacher predicted the Lord would return during Rosh Hashanah 1988. His book sold 4.5 million copies, and a major Christian network interrupted their regularly scheduled programming as the date approached to give people instructions on how to prepare for the rapture. When the Lord didn’t return in 1988, he released a revised edition of his book claiming it would be 1989. Then He predicted it would be 1993, then 1994.

Harold Camping got into the act in the 21st century, declaring that the rapture would happen on May 21, 2011, and the world would end in October of 2012. Those dates came and went, and the only thing that happened was many in the church had to eat crow. Predictions like this may sell books, garner hits on websites and go viral on social media, but they bring discredit to the Church. These predictions are also a direct disregard to the teaching of Jesus! In His own words, “But concerning that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Take heed, watch and pray. For you do not know when the time will come.” Mark 13:32-33

The Christians who get caught up in speculation and sensationalism with solar eclipses, blood moons, natural disasters and political maneuvering and try to date the Second Coming lose credibility with their unsaved family members, friends, co-workers, and neighbors. Eventually, they become like the boy who cried wolf one too many times – no one will listen to their message that Jesus is coming again! This brand of speculation and sensationalism results in many, even in the Church, swinging the pendulum too far to the other side and becoming skeptical about the return of Christ.

Jesus is coming again! And happenings such as the blood moons, the recent solar eclipse, record-breaking hurricanes, typhoons, multiple earthquakes and even the so-called, “Revelation 12” movements with Virgo and Leo should not be ignored and quickly dismissed. Jesus said, “There will be signs in the sun and the moon and the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men fainting from fear and expectation of what is coming…When you see these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, for your redemption is drawing near.”  [Luke 21:25-26, 28] Scripture in many places points to signs that will indicate the closing of the last days and the beginning of the end times. And, though we cannot know the day or the hour of His coming, the day will not overtake the Church as a thief! [I Thessalonians 5:4]

The Church must avoid sensationalism and skepticism regarding signs of the last days! Click To Tweet

Jesus taught us two valuable foundational principles that we must follow if we seek to navigate a sensible, Biblical approach to these days. First, while we wait for His coming, we must watch. The word translated watch means to be or keep awake, be alert, on guard, vigilant. He encourages us to be able to read the signs of the time we live in – and remember, He always empowers our obedience. [See Matthew 16:3] But He places a far greater emphasis on our keeping an eye on our spiritual condition than on the signs around us. Look at His word recorded in Luke 21:34, “Take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts become burdened by excessiveness and drunkenness and anxieties of life, and that Day comes on you unexpectedly.” The reality is we cannot accurately discern the signs of the times if we are overcome by the issues of our everyday living.” While we wait for His return we determine to watch – keeping awake and aware of the Holy Spirit’s working in our lives and in our generation.

The reality is we cannot accurately discern the signs of the times if we are overcome by the issues of our everyday living. Click To Tweet

The second foundational principle Jesus teaches regarding the end times is that while we wait, we work. We don’t pack our bags for the rapture and huddle with other fearful believers complaining about how bad things are getting! Jesus teaches that the faithful do His kingdom business until He returns. [Luke 19:13] In fact, He said the end isn’t coming until, “This gospel of the kingdom will be preached throughout the world as a testimony to all nations…” [Matthew 24:14] Like Jesus we must work while it is day! The Church is the expression of Jesus in the earth and our world desperately needs to see Jesus these days. We are the salt of the earth! We are the light of the world! We are the city set on a hill that cannot be hidden. [Matthew 5:13, 14]

I don’t know exactly when but I know He is coming. While we are waiting, let’s stay alert and watch and do His work of letting everybody in on the good news. They don’t have to experience the wrath of God. Jesus took it! Today is the day to make ready for eternity. Even so, come quickly Lord Jesus!

Hold On To The Promise

Keith Nix Ministries

It is an undeniable truth: what you hold on to is what will hold on to you. One of my life passages is Psalm 105: 17-19 which reads, “He sent a man before them – Joseph – who was sold as a slave. They hurt his feet with fetters, He was laid in irons. Until the time that his word came to pass, the word of the Lord tested him.” This passage speaks deeply to my soul. If anyone in history had valid reasons to carry pain with them throughout life, it was Joseph. Each of us who hear his story could easily understand if he were a bitter man. But Joseph chose to hold the promise instead of the pain.  And the promise brought him through the pit and the prison to the palace. The promise he held onto also held onto him and propelled him to his place in God’s plan.

At just seventeen years old, he experienced two vivid dreams that gave him a glimpse into destiny. He would one day be a leader. Not just a leader, but one of such significance that even his family would bow before him! He was excited about his future! Excited enough to proudly tell the dreams to his brothers, his father and anyone who would listen. He would soon learn the valuable lesson that promises most often include some pain.

Joseph’s brothers began to call him, “The Dreamer.” And they weren’t complimenting him. They held him in contempt and one day seized on the opportunity to be rid of him once and for all. Little did they know as they beat him, mocked him, threw him in the pit and later sold him as a slave they were setting him up for greatness. The painful set back was, in reality, a set up for destiny. Joseph later said, “But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.” [Genesis 50:20]

Joseph endured the humiliation of slavery and the injustice of prison with such a firm grip on the promise that in both Potiphar’s house and prison the blessing was at work. The anointing for leadership elevated him to positions of trust with his peers and his superiors in both arenas. God was setting him up for the future. Set back after set back came, but he consistently refused to let go of the promise. Joseph learned that the promise demands preparation.

“Until the time that his word came to pass, the word of the Lord tested him.” The word translated tested means to try, refine, to purify, to fuse together, to prove the quality. The very promise God gives us works in us to bring us to the place of fulfillment. The great teacher Oswald Chambers said it this way, “God gives us the vision, then He takes us down to the valley to batter us into the shape of the vision, and it is in the valley that so many of us faint and give way. Every vision will be made real if we will have patience.”  In the process of the promise, God purifies us. He gets us into the shape of the vision. Stop praying for what you are unwilling to prepare for! When the time comes for the promise to become a reality, we must be ready!

The process of the promise prepares us! Joseph’s motivation was purified until the dream was no longer about him but others. Those who know why will always lead those who know what and how. Joseph’s associations changed. He was removed from his comfortable place and put into a place of continual discomfort physically, mentally and emotionally. It seemed that his dreams were only the prideful wishes of a spoiled brat laying on his mat wrapped in his special coat of many colors. But God was holding onto to Joseph in the damp prison when all he possessed was a worn-out blanket. When it felt like the night would never let him go, God was holding him.

Joseph tapped into three keys that enabled him to thrive in captivity and endure to experience His destiny! First, he consistently chose to hold the promise and not the pain.  I know the pain is real, but the promise is of a greater reality. In Jesus, the promises are ”Yes,” and in Him “Amen,” to the glory of God through us.” [2 Corinthians 1:20] He is faithful! Second, Joseph consistently chose to believe the promise even when the facts screamed, “No way!” Like his great grandfather Abraham, Joseph did not consider the current circumstances to the be the final word. He believed the word of the Lord. Third, he persevered through the power of patience. He refused to be distracted by pain or pleasure from the promise God gave him.

Joseph held onto the promise and the promise held on to him! If Joseph can do it then so can you! In fact, you possess a distinct advantage over Joseph. You have his story! Hebrews 6:12 instructs us to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises! If you are born again, you have the DNA of Jesus! You Holy Spirit of God is dwelling inside you! Make a choice to hold on to the promise regardless of how the process looks! Don’t give up on the future because of failure in the past or weakness in your present. Let the promise shape you and make you!  Your world needs you! The time is here for you to be a blessing to your generation! Hold on to the promise, because what you hold on to – will hold onto you!

Fighting For A Generation

Keith Nix Ministries

This is war! There is an all-out, full-fledged attack on this generation of young men and women. The reality is that without a genuine awakening to truth and the Holy Spirit, statistics point to only 4% of those born after 1984 being born again believers. Only 4%! Roughly 16% of my generation [born between 1965 and 1983] consider themselves to be born again. Of the generation born between 1946 – 1964, only 35% are deemed to be born again followers of Christ. This generation is currently in charge of American leadership.

Think about it.  Our culture is shaped by morally corrupt movies and television programs, increasingly perverted music, a pornographic invasion on the internet, the legalization of homosexual marriage, the removal of the Ten Commandments from public buildings, and an attempt to take “under God” out of the Pledge of Allegiance. Christianity is under attack in the United States and around the world.

The shapers of our modern culture are, for the most part, motivated by the spirit of anti-Christ. It should be obvious to the discerning observer that there is a concerted effort in America to silence voices of truth. We are now living in the time when many call “evil good and good evil: who exchange darkness for light, and light for darkness; who exchange bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter.” [Isaiah 5:20]

Indeed, we are living in the last days when the Holy Spirit declared, “Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall…” [Isaiah 40:30] We see it all around us; the youth of our culture are worn out. They are weary in their minds, and when people become fatigued, they yield more readily to the influence of the culture. I know that there are wonderful exceptions but too many of the youth of today fall into these generalizations. Far too many live without purpose, with very little understanding of the value of life, and with souls that are increasingly being desensitized to the sin which steals, kills and destroys.

Why is the enemy fighting for our children so ferociously? It is because the prophecies concerning this generation terrify him. Haggai declared, “The glory of this latter house will be greater than the former, says the LORD of Hosts.” [Hag. 2:9}  Of course, this prophecy was fulfilled when Jesus entered the Temple, but it will find its ultimate fulfillment as Jesus manifests in this generation. Prophetic words abound expressing God’s desire to display His glory in and through the generation that will herald the return of our Lord! And the enemy knows that God will bring them to pass! It is just a matter of time.

The enemy does not know everything about the future. He simply cannot accurately predict it. Just look at Job. Satan predicted that Job would curse God, but he was wrong! Hallelujah! He’s wrong about you too! But while the enemy does not know all there is to know about the future, he is a spiritual being and as such is aware of things happening in the spiritual realm. He is mindful of the fact that the spotlight of Heaven is upon this generation! God is in the process of raising a tribe of Josiah’s that will shake the nations and shape their world.

WE must fight for the generation that the enemy is fighting so hard against. How? We combat the devil’s ideas with the truth. There is a generation that is hungry deep in their souls for truth and authenticity. [John 8:31-32] We confront the weariness that is invading our youth like cancer with the joy of the LORD. [Nehemiah 8:10] We face purposelessness that produces hopeless living with the prophetic declaration of the plan of God. [Jeremiah 29:11]

To put it simply, we must make Jesus famous in this generation! Not the Jesus of the world’s design or the Jesus created in the image of religious men and women but the real authentic Jesus of the Bible. He loves children, and He longs to release every boy and girl into the fullness of His design.

We must make Jesus famous in this generation! Click To Tweet

I am calling on you to join us in turning the tide of the predicted statistic. We declare that it will not be a pitiful number of 4% who truly know Jesus in this upcoming generation. NO! We declare that this generation is awakening and will be saved! JOIN us in getting your young people to Camp Tribe this year! It will be life changing for them! And please pray about joining us in becoming a Tribe Ambassador to partner with us in doing our part in the Awakening!

“WAKE UP!” Stop it with the snooze button! The last thing our generation needs now is a sleeping church. It is time to “Prepare for war! Wake up the mighty….” [Joel 3:9] This generation waits in desperate need for the awakening of the mighty men and women of God! On every hand we see society collapsing. Real family values are crumbling, and perversion is extolled as virtuous. The nations of this world are in trouble. We are living in the time of Isaiah’s prophecy, “For behold the darkness shall cover the earth and deep darkness the people…” [See Isaiah 60:1-3] The Apostle Paul spoke of these days, “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come.” [2 Timothy 3:1] The days are fierce and becoming fiercer. Violence is the go to now for those who do not get what they want. Rioting is becoming the new normal with loud outcries drowning out the voice of wisdom. These are indeed times of great stress; hard to deal with and hard to bear. But in these increasingly dark days, there is hope.

This generation waits in desperate need for the awakening of the mighty men and women of God! Click To Tweet

The AWAKENING is here. There is a remnant that will display the glory of God in this generation! The shaking of the economic, political, educational, social and religious systems of the last few years is serving to wake us out of slumber. The Lord is increasing HIS light of revelation in us to help us shake ourselves, get up and move into the fullness of destiny. He declares, “Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.” [Isaiah 60:1] He raises His powerful voice to shake, to divide, to break, and to cause to give birth. “The God of glory thunders…the voice of the Lord is powerful…” [See Psalm 29]

His chosen respond, “Yes Lord!” Like the young daughter of Jairus, this generation is responding to the voice of Jesus and awakening from the sleep of death. We are awakening to a greater understanding of who He is and who we are in Him. This awakening is not just about personal freedom and prosperity but to usefulness in the plan of God to be a conduit of His blessing to others.

Who Hurt the Dove?

Keith Nix Ministries

I recently read a story told by R.T. Kendall of a British couple sent by their denomination to be missionaries in Israel. They were given a home in Jerusalem. After they had moved into their new home, they noticed that a dove had come to live in the eave of the roof. They were thrilled with the presence of the turtledove and received it as a sign from the Lord of His favor on their ministry in Israel. But they noticed that every time they slammed a door, the dove would fly away. If they raised their voices in argument, the dove would fly away.

One day, the husband asked his wife, “Have you noticed the dove flying away when we slam doors or argue?  “Yes,” she replied, “I am so afraid the dove will fly off and never return.” He nodded and spoke words that would forever change their lives, “Either the dove adjusts to us or we adjust to the dove.” Wow! These words can change our lives as well if we learn to adjust to the Dove instead of demanding the Dove adapt to us.

Either the dove adjusts to us or we adjust to the dove. Click To Tweet

When the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus he chose the form of a dove. This choice of a dove as a symbol for the Holy Spirit is, of course, not coincidental.  Although, the dove and pigeon belong to the same family of birds and are anatomically identical, their temperament is vastly different. The pigeon is belligerent, will eat anything, isn’t bothered by noises, traffic or people. The dove, on the other hand, only eats fruits or seeds and is so peaceful that from ancient times cultures it was recognized as the emblem of peace. Unlike the pigeon, the dove cannot be trained and is a very sensitive creature.

While we must be careful not to make the symbolic too literal in the Scripture, the dove gives us great insight into the Holy Spirit’s temperament. We know that the Holy Spirit is also symbolically represented by fire, the wind, water, wine, and oil. The church most often focuses on the fire because fire is a powerful change agent.  We should take note that the dove came before the fire.

Ephesians 4:30 instructs us, “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you are sealed for the day of redemption.”  The word translated “grieve” here means to make sad, to cause injury, to wound, or to distress. So, it is possible to hurt the Holy Spirit. But it is also possible to live in such a way that we do not hurt Him. We should live in such a way that the Dove of Heaven is at rest in our lives; then we can expect the fire of His presence to be manifest among us.

We should live in such a way that the Dove of Heaven is at rest in our lives; then we can expect the fire of His presence to be manifest among us. Click To Tweet

Jesus told us that the Holy Spirit’s coming was to our advantage in life! [John 16:7]  The Holy Spirit is our Helper for every arena of life! His presence is so crucial to our success that we must learn to make the necessary adjustments to avoid grieving Him in any way. We do not want the Dove to fly off but to remain on us in power. We are not talking in this passage about losing your salvation; we are talking about living as an authorized representative of His Kingdom. This is not about the Holy Spirit abandoning us but withdrawing His presence so that we are left with our ability and not flowing in His.

I am nothing without the help of the Holy Spirit! What is ministry without the anointing? What is life without the dynamite power of God? How can we learn what we need to know if He is hurt by our attitudes and actions and pulls back from communing with us? We must learn how to live with high sensitivity to Him so that His presence becomes increasingly stronger with us and His power manifest in a marvelous and impacting way.

There are five things we must avoid if we want to live, so the Dove of Heaven finds rest with us:

  1. Impurity – I Corinthians 6:19 says that our body is the temple where the Spirit dwells.
  2. Neglecting (paying little attention) to this great salvation – Hebrews 2:2
  3. Dishonoring His word – 2 Timothy 3:16 says the Scripture is the Holy Spirit’s great work
  4. Dishonoring His people – Mark 6 shows that where people did not honor Him, even Jesus could not accomplish much. [See also Romans 12:9-10]
  5. Inner attitudes that give birth to words and actions of destruction [Ephesians 4:29-32
    1. Bitterness
    2. Rage
    3. Anger
    4. Harsh words
    5. Slander
    6. All types of evil behavior

The Dove is not going to adjust to us! He is gentle, but He cannot be trained. He is soft, but He is not weak. He is strong, but He is also sensitive. He is the sound of a mighty rushing wind, but He also is found in the gentle cooing of a dove. He is fire, but He is also flighty. If we want to live in the awareness of His presence and the flow of His power, we must adjust to the Dove!

If we want to live in the awareness of His presence and the flow of His power, we must adjust to the Dove! Click To Tweet
